What they did on the set before the Mitchell BNC and NC

Post by samjohnson@39 » Wed Jul 09, 2014 11:28 am

hey guys, found this picture of an old camera booth and I have always heard stories about putting the camera in a small booth to insulate the sound when the takies first started. Now i see why the silent Mitchells became so popular in the 30s. I cant imagine having to shoot a scene inside one of these!

OK, I'll play. Great shot here but look Like a Bell and Howell 2709 and not a Mitchell Standard.

Those are good but I found this one and IMHO I think I have you all beat. Classic old Hollywood complete with So. Cal tiled roofs and "cutting room no. 12" on the door. Of course we have not one but 3 camera booths so 3 of a kind beats what you posted, no? - Simmonl

Fantastic photos! Thanks to all who posted them! I have not seen very many of these with the booths. I have never seen the smaller booths as in the photo with three cameras. I'll have to did out a couple I have....

I found a couple of "Ice Box" photos in an article about the early days of sound filming.

Great photos in this thread! Mark, did you ever find your pics?

ezeecomeezgo, it’s a Bell & Howell Standard with 1000-ft. mag on. One can tell by the shiny housing frame and the size.
