Re: Mitchell Cameras; ownership history

Oh yes, I have seen photos with Technicolor cameras on these blue painted Mitchell legs. Although I don't think it is common to have big Moy or Worrall heads on them, but I have seen that too. I've been told, but not seen in person, That there are two sizes of Mitchell friction heads and the Technic...

Re: lenses

lilybettia, nice looking camera. Keep looking on eBay and they do turn up. Try an ongoing search for Baltar and look through the new listings. What is the serial numbe of your camera? Are you familiar with the particulars of your camera? I ask as I see ther are the knobs for the floating iris and ma...

Re: Mitchell Cameras; ownership history

Hello Tiffany, Very nice tripod. It looks like it could be one of the first made; it has the earliest Mitchell Factory location (Los Angeles) and it is an extremely low serial number, it is no. 21?. It has the earlier style leg locking knobs as well. History on tripods is not very likely, however th...

Re: Stiff Movement on Mitchell Standard (advice)

Nice camera. Too bad the front was altered but common for cameras that were used in animation. If it is a standard, it likely has bronze sleeves, not bearings. The grease gets old and dry. You would want to make sure that you oil all the correct spots to oil theses cameras. I have a diagram somwhere...

Re: Miniature Mitchell Cameras scaled up from photographs

Spectacular collection! Your lucky to have them and we're all lucky they didn't get dumped. I own a Mitchell Standard that was made in 1931 and sold to Paramount studios. It filmed many movies and stars like Marlene Deitrich and Bing Crosby. In the 1980s Paramount sold a bunch of their cameras and e...

Re: Sam Dodge and his BNCR #157 Video Tour

How was Sam able to find out that it works on Inavasion? I'm always interested to hear how people find out...it's often like detective work!

Re: Mitchell Standard serial numbers

Another interesting note is that the L base has the knobs for the floating iris, movable mattes, etc. This is a very nice feature. Often times the internal workings are removed.

Re: Sam Dodge YouTube demo of 1922 Mitchell Standard #5

Regarding Mitchell camera no. 333; what is the serial number on the viewfinder? Also can I bother you for some photos of the inside, showing the disolve mechanism? My camera is missing some parts and I need some good clear pictures of them so I can find them. Thanks!

Re: Stein Color Cameras (Mitchell Standard Copy)

Hello and thanks for the pictures. Is the black painted camera you show all original? I am trying to figure out what the original front looked like. Do you know? Did it have a turret? Single lens? Thanks, Mark

Re: mitchell found in dumpster, help id

Hi Mike, I take it the tripod has wood legs? Sounds like a standard Mitchell made tripod with a newer head on it. Mitchell made these tripods starting in the 1920's and into the 1950's and probably later. The address for Mitchell being in Los Angeles puts it being made in the 1920's and probably the...
