Re: Front Camera "Tour" of Mitchell 356

A Continuation of the Front Camera "Tour" of Mitchell 356- My first still photo shot with the MITCHELL BNC 356 Camera and myself was in 1992 out in the desert near Edwards Air Force Base . I was employing the camera in a stop frame long exposure role to photograph the rise and fall of star clusters ...

Re: Front Camera "Tour" of Mitchell 356

Hello Thanks for the nice feedback folks ! I will dig deep as there are so many shots of BNC 356 to find . A special note . We had a video training day in Feb 2009 for the entire crew I will lift frame grabs from the video . I do not know how much video or if any is supported on this site . So I wil...

Front Camera "Tour" of Mitchell 356

Greetings Folks The pictures included here are part of a extended effort to round out at least 30 to -40 shots of the BNC 356 . There will be a set of shots of BNC 356 in action much later . These shots display the famous wide diameter lens port which -I believe attracted Stanley Kubrick to order-fr...

Re: Mitchell BNC Camera Construction -Personal Observations

For Mark and Max Here is my reply 1-the last note shows a silver plunger NOT Factory added . This may well be the notch device which did the film marking job in the film chamber after the film gate . 2-I never worked at any studio,All work I did was on independent films. My close contacts were at MG...

Re: Unique BNC Rack Over Alignment Tool

Hello !
You can eyeball camera gate-camera box alignment through the front of the L plate aperture
then you can tap in a setting of the brass stops on the rail base of the L plate .
But you are right -this device is superior .
Cheers

Re: Mitchell BNC Camera Construction -Personal Observations

Hello Justin . Thanks for the compliments . I guess by default ,I may be one of the few 30 year veterans of operating a Mitchell that is still around . The camera became a real friend to my cinema efforts . "Mr Mitchell" is a position reserved for George Mitchell owner and founder of the company . B...

Re: Mitchell BNC Camera Construction -Personal Observations

Just a Note to all who read my posts -- All my notes are based on my experience with my Mitchell Camera and are not intended to be the definitive story on the Mitchell Camera . For instance ,to my memory ,no one ever interviewed Thomas Garvin camera assistant to Greg Toland ......I hope I am wrong a...

Re: Hello from Bruce R Morgan 30 Mitchell Cameraman

Excellent points as to why anyone, anywhere - could find an unmodified BNC during this day and age. If you had asked me to speculate as to why that you had been so lucky, I'm not sure if I could of even come up with any plausible scenarios. But there you are, with 3 perfectly intelligent reasons an...

Re: Unique BNC Rack Over Alignment Tool

Hello Randy And thanks for that beautiful addition you made ! The L plate and camera box system with that long deep flarge focal distance was (ironically) well worth the trouble as Stanley Kubrick would prove years later by employing "exotic " non standard lenses to the BNC camera . Great diagrams t...
